A Winter Hot Cocoa!

'Tis the season to snuggle up with a cup of hot cocoa!
Harry and I love snuggling on the couch in the chilly winter months with a cup of hot cocoa and a good christmas movie. We grab a furry blanket, throw on our PJs, and have a quick quibble about which movie to watch... he loves Elf, I'm a die hard Love Actually fan and then we get to sip the most delicious cocoa recipe ever.

Festive Holiday Gift Guide- 2016

When I was doing the Christmas tag for my previous post, one of the questions asked- Do you enjoy giving gifts more or do you enjoy receiving gifts more... I was honestly a bit stumped.

I mean don't get me wrong, I L-O-V-E getting gifts. Coco Chanel said it best when she said, "the best things in life are free and the second best are very expensive." I mean, getting Christmas presents is like getting expensive things for free, what could be better, but that brings me to my next point.

When you have got a present so perfect, so spot on, that you just know you know the person didn't even realize how badly they needed your present in the first place, that's the best feeling. Call it competitive, call it kind-hearted, to me- that's really nailing a Christmas present and I hope this festive gift guide helps you nail your gift giving... or at least inspires you to drop some hints to those around you.

Holiday Pajama Jam!

Anyone who knows me knows I have a bit of an obsession with pajamas... I just think, we spend so many hours in our pjs why not put a little bit of glamour in them! And they're not just for sleeping anymore, I love waking up on a Saturday morning and sipping hot chocolate on the couch in my comfies, especially during the festive season.

It's Beginning to Look A lot like Christmas!

I am hoping to blog a bit more in December as its my favorite month, so I thought I would do the Christmas tag. I didn’t do all of the questions, but there are a lot! I also shared some photos of my tree- we choose gold, silver and champagne colors on a flocked tree and I fell in love. If you want to know a bit more about how I decorate my tree, check out my post here. I use all of the same baubles from last year + a few new ones each year. I also love watching Lisa Robertson videos on youtube... She is a genius!

The Last Days of Autumn

Although fall ... or autumn... I suppose I should get used to calling it autumn, since I live in the UK now- is out the door and its all about the Christmas spirit, I still can't help loving tweed and knee high boots. My autumn uniforms are statement skirts, cream blouses and knee high boots. The skirts always take center show and the knee high boots go with everything.

New Kitchen Tour!

The dream is real! We finally have our new kitchen. There are soon many things I want to share with you guys. It took loads of planning and two weeks of work, but it's a success. However, I'm afraid no good kitchen remodel is complete without a before picture. So if you want to see before scroll to the bottom where I hid the ugliness.

We chose our kitchen from Wickes (a British equivalent of home depot), the range is called Kendall cream. I picked the style because I felt it was classic and modern, yet still timeless. One of my decorating pet peeves is when people pick high trend items and they become very dated. In my opinion high gloss kitchens are the next avocado bathroom suites. Buyer Beware!- but all styles will age with time.

Initially I was torn between white and cream, because my favorite kitchen I have ever seen is Rachel Parcell's gorgeous white and marble kitchen from PinkPeonies.com. It is hands down the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Never the less, Wickes discontinued the white and the decision was made for us. The cream then influenced the design approach I wanted to take. It felt a bit more warm to me so I leaned more towards country chic and then added the high gloss tiles to add a more modern twist. Its very appropriate as we do live in Surrey.

The next really cool design feature we have in the kitchen is the high gloss white ceramic floor tiles. I repeated them as a backsplash around the wall as well. Most people use smaller tiles as backsplashes, but having smaller tiles means have more grout lines, which means more potential for dirt! Not only is it practical, but its also cost effective.

We found this amazing spice organizer on Amazon. I love the design because it lets you see all of your spices laid out, as well as being able to hold quite a lot of spices.

One of the more designer aspects of our kitchen was this pull out cabinet. Its not the most efficient use of space, but it is super convenient.

All of our appliances are Russell Hobbs classic range in chrome. The tea bag tin is Emma Bridge water and the adorable cookbook holder and the chicken oven mitt (below) is Laura Ashley.

Our before photo... yikes

Save the Date

Our save the dates arrived and I have finally sent them to everyone, so I thought I would post a review and share my save the date with you guys. We ordered our std's from WeddingPaperDivas, which I love! I got my graduation announcements from there and they were classy, timeless, and chic, so I knew they were the place to go. I'm a really formal and traditional person, especially when it comes to wedding planning, so I love save the dates, because I feel they are an appropriate time to have a little fun and be expressive (and an actual invitation is no place for a photo!).  Let me know what you think!

Dressing Room Desires

I can't believe I am about to say this, but the upstairs of our house is almost finished! It has been a long, hard, and grueling last 2 months renovating, but so worth it (kind of). As soon as Harry and I arrived back from our wedding planning trip to LA, we found a tenant for our flat and had to move out in a matter of days. We dumped all of our possessions in the downstairs of our new home and retreated to Harry's parents' house for two weeks, while we attempted to chip away at the DIY and painting. After two weeks we decided to move into our place, so we set up camp on our spare bed in the middle of our living room... YES, we had a full size bed in our living room! And it was only until this last Saturday that we got the bed moved into our bedroom upstairs. So there will be a bedroom post soon (hopefully).
Dressing Room Desires

Our new home has what British people like to call 3 bedrooms, but what I (as an American) like to call 2 bedrooms and a closet ;) so I thought I'd post some inspiration for my new dressing room. Blush and gold have always been my colors, since I was 13 years old and all of my cool friends loved red and black and Paul Frank, but I wanted a pink and gold Bat Mitzvah. Je ne regret rien! Anyway I can't wait to see how the final product turns out!

Cake Tasting!

So I recently made another trip to Santa Monica/Los Angeles to do the last bits of wedding planning that required me to actually be there, one of which was ... Cake Tasting! The Casa del Mar offers 5 different places to get your wedding cake from, which is included in your wedding package: Vanilla Bake Shop, Sweet Lady Jane Bakery, Butterend Cakery, Fantasy Frostings, and Bottega Louie. We managed to hit 4 of the 5 shops and skipped Bottega Louie.

Our cake flavor samples to try

Flavor wise each shop had different flavors they were strongest at baking. When it boiled down to picking our favorite flavors, we picked different flavors at each shop. At Vanilla Bake Shop I think we picked their Coconut and Carrot Cake, but at Sweet Lady Jane we picked their Red Velvet and Princess Cake (their red velvet was my favorite of all the flavors we tasted!). I was also surprised to see Red Velvet at only two of the shops, I guess it must be a trend of the past now! Design wise the shops were pretty happy for you to guide them, which to me is perfect.

Can't wait to reveal the final cake and design!

Bob Bob Ricard- Press for Champagne!

I have been so so so so... SO busy doing up the new house that I haven't a second to think. Luckily, Harry and I escaped to Bob Bob Ricard in London- and what a great way to escape! We went on a double date, to the gorgeous art deco style restaurant in Soho on Saturday night. BBR is most famous for their ingenious Press for Champagne button, which we definitely made use of. So decadent! I love their menu, its clean, fresh, and tasty. I ordered the lemon sole goujons for main and the milk ice cream and Amaretto for dessert. Harry however, ordered the BBR signature dessert, (below). A chocolate orb covered in lustering gold dust and filled with passionfruit, chocolate mousse. I think he was in L-O-V-E.

Duck Egg Guest Room

The renovations on the new house are going on as we speak! Its been a tough haul, lots of DIY and late nights, but I'm sure it will be worth it. We have some pretty cool new features that I can't wait to share with you guys.

The inspiration below is for the spare bedroom. Right now I'm not 100% sure we will keep it as a guest room permanently, but we will definitely have space for guests to sleep. I chose the Brusali bedroom suite from Ikea for all the furniture. I love the white clean look- matching furniture creates an upscale look.

The most important thing I learned from this room, was to pick a boutique paint shop. The first time we attempted to paint a room a light blue color we chose one from the hardware shop and it turned out hideous. I always buy my paints from Laura Ashley now, so that even if I pick the wrong color it will still be a chic color! Also their pale duck egg paint and Josette wallpaper is my FAV.

Spring's First Blush

Happy Spring!

All signs of spring are finally here! The sun is starting to shine, daffodils are in full bloom, cherry blossom trees are budding with flowers, but in typical British fashion the weather is still freezing!
I am definitely starting to get just a tad envious of all of the gorgeous American bloggers in their spring dresses and sunny days, while I'm over here with five coats on.

Nothing reminds me of spring quite like blush pink, which is my favorite color for just about anything. I paired this gorgeous blush pencil dress, with a matching bag from asos, and nude heels. Patent nude heels are a style staple and help elongate your legs, (which is great for short girls like me)!

What are the first things you ladies pull out of your closet, when it hits spring!?

Champagne Bedroom Inspiration

In honor of finally getting keys to the new house, I'm posting my first decor inspiration!

With so much going on all the time I find it so much easier to keep track of my thoughts and ideas by creating these little inspiration boards and a co-ordinating Pinterest board (follow me here!). Best of all, I can organize the actual products that are going in the room, in addition to color schemes etc.

The inspiration for the Champagne bedroom came from our gorgeous bed, which I already have in our current room (pictures don't do it justice). In our current bedroom, Harry and I struggled to decide a color we both wanted for the walls. I always knew I wanted pale pink/blush bedding, so it was a struggle find a color that matched, but was "manly" enough for a shared bedroom, so we settled on a pale green. However, the paint we ended up painting was much bluer and I am not a fan! SO, having learned my lesson I knew I wanted to stick with a lighter, neutral, color scheme as they are timeless, elegant, lighter, and make a room look bigger. I can't wait until we can finally get all of the paint and furniture into the actual room and see how it goes from inspiration to REALITY!
