Bordeaux Travel Guide

Harry and I recently skipped off for a long weekend in Bordeaux, as a little birthday treat for both of us. Bordeaux took me by surprise, it ticks all off all of my standard travel requirements- good weather, delicious food, and gorgeous buildings. Since we loved it so much, I thought I would do a mini travel guide below, but if you want to see more, I linked our video above!!

WHERE TO EAT
QUATRIEME MUR
This gorgeous restaurant is attached to the Grand Theatre and its ambience definitely reflects it. The ceilings are full of gorgeous chandeliers and the inside is flocked with gold, but there is also a touch of modern. It was also, the busiest of our Bordeaux restaurants. We went for breakfast, but only because we couldn’t get a reservations for dinner- so book ahead!!

KARL
Karl was a total accident. Harry and I were wandering around starved and just happened upon Karl, it wasn’t until later that I realized this is one of Bordeaux’s best breakfasts. The food was delicious and the restaurant was packed. We got fresh fruit and boulangerie, but the tables next to us looked like they had ordered half the menu! Bonus point- we got to eat outside in the Place du Parlement.

OPERA PATTISERIE
Definitely the most instagrammable of our restaurants. I was totally shocked when we saw the inside, the restaurant is totally white with touches of black very modern elegant. Also, the food. They make their own passionfruit jam and it was seriously incredible. Not to mention they have an array of gorgeous pastel colored patisserie.

WHERE TO VISIT

GRAND THEATRE
This was my favorite place we visited. The architecture and decor is seriously beyond. Everything is baroque and gilded and so so so detailed, its breathtaking. When we went they had an art installation using lights and the theatre itself, which was really great. We watched for about 30 minutes.

BORDOVINO WINE TOUR
Harry and I were lucky enough to find an amazing wine tour of two different chateaux in St. Emilion. This was one of our favorite things we have done traveling recently. The chateaux are simply beautiful, great architecture, beautiful landscapes and we learned SO much about wine.

PLACE DE LA COMEDIE CAROUSEL
This carousel has been in the city center since 1889 and its the most decadent thing I have ever seen. As an adult, I rode this carousel 3 times (no shame). It has great views of the square, old world music, and its gorgeous.

  1. Ooooh dude first up, this is one place that I absolutely NEED to travel to. The restaurant Karl sounds delightful, I love it when you stumble upon a place by accident and end up falling completely in love with it! The wine tour is another thing I'd love to go on, it's such a unique way to learn more about the history of the place - and have a few gorgeous drinks too!

  10. We hired a 4WD locally to tour the main 3 tribes in the area (Mersi, Hamer and Karo tribes). We shared this cost with 3 other travellers who were on the bus and stayed at the same accommodation as us. http://www.offateverything.com/7-tips-to-take-a-last-minute-trip-offateverything/
