5 Ideas to Inspire Your New Year's Resolutions

I love New Year's Resolutions. I know a lot of people really don't like them and they get a lot of negative attention, (read my post here about setting positive new year's resolutions ) so much so, that people try to effectively re-brand them as intentions or goals etc.  So call them whatever you like, regardless of the branding, setting some type of goal and reflecting back on your life is important. We do these kind of yearly reviews or feedback activities at work and in our outside hobbies, so why would we not look to improve ourselves on our own terms.

I'm probably a bit late to the game, but while I was doing some research, when my hubby and I were setting our own goals, I stumbled upon some amazing new year's resolutions inspiration and wanted to share here. What I found were some topics to inspire your new year's resolutions and reboot all the different parts of your life. I also thought I'd share some of my own goals in the ideas as well!

Setting goals about health is the number one thing people set as their new year's resolutions. Most people like to set their resolution as: lose weight, but I've talked before about that can be a bit unhelpful, so here are some more creative and beneficial health goals to get you kickstarted.

  • Do 40 minutes of low intensity steady state cardio 2/3 times a week
  • Start each morning with warm water and half a lemon
  • Ditch your afternoon candy bar for an apple or frozen grapes
  • Do one gym class a week

To me nothing is more important in this world than happiness and love. The love you have for yourself, the love you have for your family, the love you have for your other half, and the love you have for others. So why wouldn't you look at taking steps to improve your relationships as well?

  • Have a romantic date night once a week- no phones at the table!
  • Call your siblings more often... and your nana too
  • Listen better to your friend's stories and try not to think about what you will say next
  • Say yes to something your friend wants to do, but that you aren't that interested in

This is one of my favorite ideas and I found a lot of inspiration from this topic. You can have a little look on pinterest or google for some more ideas about this, as there are lots of interesting articles on the subject.

  • Meditate for 10 minutes at 8pm every work night to de-stress
  • Try to put yourself in other people's shoes before passing judgement
  • Take the trip you have ALWAYS wanted to take
  • Give back to the community by doing community service every month.
  • Overcome laziness, by having a solid morning routine- this is a big one of mine!

I have a 9-5 career as well as my blog, so this was an important one for me to look at. I do set goals at work and go through a yearly feedback cycle, but I like to take the new year as an opportunity to look at my career from the outside. Ie. do I want to be in this role next year and how could I advance this bit of my role I am really enjoying.
  • Join one of the groups or networks at your company- like the woman's network
  • Pick up a project that your manager didn't ask you to do and make it amazing
  • Look at roles that you might be interested in, in the future and look to improve some of your current skills to help you better suit your future role
  • Find a better work life balance- i.e. WFH once a week or make sure you are leaving on time
I know a lot of my readers are bloggers, so I thought I would include this one for all of us setting blog goals for the new year, whether its your full-time job or your full-time hobby.
  • Post a blog post once a week
  • Connect with 1 new blogger a week on Instagram
  • Try out an outfit idea that is totally different from your normal style
  • Start a monthly series for your blog- such as monthly favorites, what's inside my handbag this month
  • Brainstorm blog post ideas for when you are feeling writer's block
